It’s all about the food at Greek Fest

If you went to the 41th annual Greek Festival at Hellenic Community of Vancouver May 3-5, 2019, you have been a part of the glendi, which means celebration, and get a taste of Greek life. This colorful three-day family festival, which took place in offers a wonderful array of Greek dance to the tunes of an authentic Greek band, specialty booths and a tasty assortment of Greek food and drink.
Food is a big part of this fest like gyros, spanakopita, moussaka, diples, loukoumades and baklava, plus drinks including the famous Greek beer Mythos.
Evelyn Economos committee member who may be the hardest working Greek on the festival team “it got bigger and bigger and bigger. People lined up to get the baked goods” she said.
In addition to the food, another highlight of the festival is the costumed dance programs that showcase enthusiastic young dancers as well as older dancers in traditional Greek routines.
The dancing is great fun to watch, and the stage stays busy with the Greek band.
Demetri Zambus, president of Greek Festival committee said the festival “is one of the best culinary and cultural experiences in Vancouver. We just want people to come out and have fun.” (GM)
