Il Centro Italian Cultural Centre Long Table Dinner was held on July 31st, an “al fresco” dining experience in the piazza, reminiscent of many family dinners enjoyed during summer visits to Europe. The feeling was very Italian, with a menu which highlighted local ingredients providing for a unique culinary experience for the delighted diners. President, Michael Cuccione welcomed the guests and fellow board members, Randy Rinaldo, Walter Pico, Vito Bruno and Mario Miceli. It was an honor to have Consul General of Italy, Massimiliano Iachinni, join the festivities as he prepares to return to Italy after four years of exceptional contribution to our local Italian community. As with Italian tradition, there was much socializing and discussion, some may think it was loud, but it was just, well, Italian. Everyone became part of the family by the end of the night, brought together by the amazing food of Chef Jackson and his exceptional team and the warmth of everyone in attendance. Of course, Grappa may have been involved as well, after all, it was an Italian experience. The feedback on the evening was outstanding. A first time participant in an Il Centro event captured it this way: “A beautiful night, wonderful company and an amazing mouth-watering dinner. The chef truly highlighted his culinary expertise with fresh local ingredients that left us wanting more after each bite. The Il Centro long table dinner far exceeded my expectations!”
The weather cooperated and the setting was elegant and beautiful. Fabio Rassoto, catering director for Il Centro, and his catering staff created an ambiance of sophisticated attentive service throughout the evening. An environment that had you forgetting that you were in the heart of the city of Vancouver, summed up well by this attendee: “A peaceful oasis in the bustle of Grandview Highway, where we feasted upon gourmet offerings, each dish more delicious than the last.”
Il Centro has hit a home run with these unique dining experience, differentiated themselves from the ordinary, while offering Italians and non-Italians a peek into a cultural experience familiar in Italy but unfamiliar to the lower mainland. The Board and Staff at Il Centro continue to strive and innovate to offer everyone in the community an opportunity to experience Italian through their events. This dinner was very much on point. If you missed this event but want to be a part of such a tremendous experience, don’t despair.
