The Italian Canadian Sports Federation (ICSF) celebrated its forty (40) years anniversary this past weekend. The organization organized a smaller version of the original interregional tournament that ran for over thirty years “The ICSF Coppa Italia”.
The three day events took place at Adanac Park where it all started forty years ago. The support for this was incredible with many community sponsors assisting in making this happen including the Counsel General of Italy opening the ceremonies on Friday evening.
The park was set up with two playing fields along with a Beer Garden, full concession stand with Italian Pasta and BBQ Sausages coffees and deserts. “Gusto” supported the event with their own stand with Italian Gelato and delicious pastries. “Trace Water” supplied each team with water for every game and manned their booth throughout the event.
The tournament was comprised of eight regional Provinces of Italy that included; Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Lazio, Molise, Sicilia, Veneto
The event also coincided with Giornata Dello Sport Italiano Nel Mondo / Italian Sports Day Around The World and acknowledged by the ICSF and the Consulate General of Italy with a warm up top given to every player and team staff.
Four teams advanced to the Semi-final with Molise defeating Campania and Calabria defeating Veneto. CALABRIA was crowned the 2019 Interregional Coppa Italia Champions with a 2 – 1 score over Molise.
On behalf of the Italian Canadian Community we want to thank the ICSF for bringing back this tournament along with all the sponsors that supported the event and each team including some of the Italian Societies.
The ICSF is hoping that this will continue to be an annual event that brings participation from all around the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley including our Youth so that the tradition can continue. Congratulations to every team that participated and to the Italian Canadian Sports Federation organizing Committee.
