As a young boy my Dad would take me to my uncle Nick’s Sorrento Barbershop and I would stare at all the posters of the Serie A and Azzurri squads.
I didn’t know much about them due to technology in the 80’s and could only read the newspapers to see the scores. I wish we had satellite tv back then to see all the stars play like Paolo Rossi, Roberto Baggio, Gaetano Scirea, and Claudio Gentile.
Fast forward 30 years and now every game is available.
What I missed out on growing up I wanted to give back to the Italian community by having a venue that grandparents, parents and children could enjoy watching a great match together.
Last year I became friends with Pietro Nardone who runs the Official Juventus Vancouver fan club.
Along with him, Randy Rinaldo, Mario Miceli, Jeremy Rossier we decided to make it our mission to bring Italian families together at the ICC to cheer on Juventus and the Azzurri.
Second viewing parties in and we’ve had a full house both games. $10 for a peroni/Italian sausage or all you can eat pasta can’t be beat anywhere in the city.
I still faintly remember being on my Dad’s shoulders in 1982 on Commercial taking in the celebration.
Hopefully one day soon families can do it again.
