A snowfall warning is now officially in effect for Metro Vancouver.
Environment Canada upgraded its Special Weather Statement to an official warning for the region this afternoon.
The snow is expected to begin this evening and continue through to Friday. The weather agency some areas could see an accumulation of up to 25 cm of snow.
The snowfall warning is in effect for the following areas:
- Metro Vancouver – central, including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
- Metro Vancouver – North Shore, including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
- Metro Vancouver – northeast, including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
- Metro Vancouver – southeast, including Surrey and Langley
“Persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions. Watch for updated statements.”
Environment Canada adds that the snow is expected to be wet and there is potential for tree damage and power outages.
