Burnaby Citizens Association Delivering New Childcare Centres

children-transparent-png-2.pngMayor Derek Corrigan and Burnaby Citizens Association Board of Education Chair, Gary Wong, announced the first of four childcare centres at Burnaby schools.
“The new child care centre at Capitol Hill is an example of our Council and School Board working together to support families and help kids succeed,” said Derek Corrigan, the Burnaby Citizen Association Mayor and candidate for re-election.
“Keeping Burnaby a great place to live, work, learn and play, is an important priority,” said Gary Wong, Burnaby Citizen Association School Trustee Chair and candidate for re-election. “Withstanding the crushing pressures of funding cuts by past governments, we have shown the positive impact decision-making can have to make sure every child is welcome and every child succeeds.” Late last year, the City of Burnaby approved $6 million in density bonus money for the design and construction of four stand-alone modular buildings to be placed at Capitol Hill, Montecito, Cascade Heights and Stride Avenue elementary schools – providing daycare spaces for about 100 toddlers. Today’s announcement confirms all the services and infrastructure are now in place and the modular buildings have been ordered.
“We have a unique partnership with our Mayor and Council so we can get these projects delivered,” said Wong. “With our new partners in Victoria, the Burnaby Citizens Association Trustees are delivering 7 more seismic upgrades to school and have delivered 20 new classrooms. Also, with the help of our parents and the City of Burnaby we have installed 16 new playgrounds.”
This election the Burnaby Citizens Association team proudly represents years of experience with two of our long-serving trustees, and five new candidates, with a fresh commitment to making every child welcome, and every child successful.
